The Bull Who Loved to Swim
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While his friends practiced charging and snorting at the farm, Barnaby dreamed of something magical—water.
Every afternoon, the young bull would sneak away to the crystal pond behind the old palm tree. His best friend, a wise old goldfish named Glimmer, would be waiting.
"You're late today," Glimmer would say, her golden scales sparkling like tiny stars in the sunlight.
"Farmer John tried to teach me to charge again," Barnaby would sigh, dipping his hooves into the cool water. "But I'd rather go swimming with you."
Barnaby loved swimming more than anything. He loved the way the water felt around his legs, loved watching the ripples spread across the pond like magic, loved how Glimmer would swim around his nose making the most beautiful bubble patterns.
One especially hot afternoon, something extraordinary happened. Glimmer swam right up to Barnaby's nose and whispered, "Touch your palm to the water and make a wish."
Barnaby looked confused. "My palm? Bulls don't have palms."
But when he looked at his front hoof, he saw what Glimmer meant—the soft part of his leg that looked just like a palm.
"Trust me," said Glimmer.
So Barnaby touched his palm to the shimmering water and made his wish: "I wish I could really swim with you, Glimmer. Not just splash, but swim like a fish."
Suddenly, the water began to glow with golden light. Barnaby felt lighter than air, and when he stepped into the pond, he could swim! He and Glimmer swam together, diving deep and leaping high into the air, making the biggest, happiest splashes ever.
From that day on, Barnaby learned that being different was wonderful. While other bulls charged at fences, Barnaby swam with his fish friend. And he was the happiest bull in the whole world.
The palm tree would wave its fronds in approval, Glimmer would do happy flips, and Barnaby finally understood: real friends love you for who you are, not who they think you should be.
