The Bull Who Loved to Swim

Every summer afternoon, Lily would walk to the pond with her golden dog named Sparkle. They loved skipping stones and watching the dragonflies dance over the shimmering water.

But there was one problem. Farmer Brown's bull lived in the field next to the pond, and everyone said he was the grumpiest bull in the whole county. Whenever Lily and Sparkle walked past, the bull would snort and paw the ground, making scary clouds of dust.

One particularly hot afternoon, Lily and Sparkle arrived at the pond, sweating and tired. To their surprise, no one was around. Then they heard a big splash!

Lily peeked through the tall grass. There, in the middle of the pond, was the grumpy bull! But he wasn't grumpy at all. He was swimming, his huge head bobbing happily in the cool water. He looked like a giant, happy puppy.

"Wow!" Lily whispered.

The bull spotted them and froze. But instead of looking angry, he looked embarrassed. He slowly waded to shore and shook himself dry, sending water droplets flying like diamonds in the sunlight.

"I... I like swimming," the bull said in a deep, shy voice. "But Farmer Brown says bulls shouldn't swim. He says they should just stand in fields and look tough."

Sparkle bounded forward and licked the bull's nose. The bull's eyes widened, and then he let out the silliest, happiest snort Lily had ever heard.

"My name is Bubbles," said the bull. "What's your name?"

"I'm Lily, and this is Sparkle!" she laughed. "We won't tell anyone your secret, Bubbles. In fact, would you like to be our friend?"

Every day after that, when no one else was around, Lily and Sparkle would meet Bubbles at the pond. They would all go swimming together, laughing and splashing. The grumpy bull wasn't grumpy at all — he was just lonely and wanted to have fun.

Lily learned something important that summer: sometimes things aren't what they seem. And everyone, even a big bull, needs a friend and a little fun in their life.
