The Bull Who Loved Riddles

Lily loved exploring the meadow behind her grandmother's cottage. One misty morning, she followed a glittering blue path she'd never seen before. It wound through ancient oak trees and led to a crystal pool of **water** that shimmered like liquid sapphires.

By the pool sat a magnificent creature — part lion, part human, with wise amber eyes. A **sphinx**!

"Welcome, young seeker," the sphinx purred. "I guard this magical water. It grants one wish per century, but only to those who solve my riddle."

Lily's heart raced with excitement. But before she could speak, a gentle **bull** with a coat like sunset gold emerged from the trees. He looked kind, not scary at all.

"Please," the bull said softly. "May I try? I've waited fifty years to make a wish."

The sphinx nodded. "Very well. Here is my riddle: I have no wings, yet I fly. I have no eyes, yet I see everything. What am I?"

Lily thought hard. The bull lowered his massive head, thinking too.

"A cloud!" Lily shouted.

"No," said the sphinx.

"The wind?" guessed the bull.

"Incorrect."

They sat together, thinking. Suddenly, Lily grabbed the bull's hoof. "Together! We're stronger together. That's the answer!"

The sphinx smiled. "Clever child. But no — the answer is imagination."

The bull sighed sadly. He'd waited so long.

"Wait!" Lily cried. "He can have my wish!"

The sphinx's eyes twinkled. "Generosity is the rarest magic. You both may wish."

The bull wished for courage to protect his herd. Lily wished for the bull to have a friend.

The water bubbled and turned gold. When it cleared, the bull had grown magnificent wings!

"Now I can fly over the meadow and find new friends," the bull rejoiced.

Lily waved as her new friend soared into the sky. She learned that day that kindness creates more magic than any wish could.
