The Bull Who Loved Padel Ball
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every summer afternoon, he'd grab his glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting home runs like his favorite players.
But Leo's school didn't have a baseball team. "Only padel this year," said Coach Maria, pointing to the racquet courts. "Sign up if you want to play."
Padel sounded boring. Leo wanted nothing to do with it.
One evening, Leo sat under the old palm tree near the courts, feeling sad. A massive bull—old Ferdinand, who lived on the neighboring farm—ambled over. The bull was enormous, with gentle brown eyes and horns that curved like crescent moons.
"Why so sad, little friend?" Ferdinand asked.
Leo jumped. "You can talk!"
"Many things can talk," Ferdinand said wisely. "Now tell me what troubles you."
Leo explained about baseball and padel. "I just want to play something fun."
Ferdinand chuckled. "I used to love games too. Before I got too big for the fields, I'd play soccer with the farmer's children. But you know what I learned?"
Leo shook his head.
"The fun comes from playing, not from what you play. I've watched the padel matches. Those children laugh and cheer just as much as any baseball team."
The bull gestured with his massive snout toward the padel court, where children were laughing and rallying.
"But..." Leo started.
"Try something new," Ferdinand said gently. "The palm tree outside my window didn't want to grow coconuts. It wanted to be an oak. But then it discovered its coconuts could make the sweetest milk, and now it's the happiest tree in the grove."
Leo looked at the palm tree swaying above them. "You're right."
He walked to the padel court. Coach Maria handed him a racquet. Leo swung it, just like a baseball bat. The ball flew over the net—perfect!
"Nice serve!" shouted the other kids.
Leo smiled. He'd signed up for padel the next day. And every afternoon, he'd wave to Ferdinand, who watched from behind the palm tree, reminding him that trying new things brings the best surprises.
Sometimes, the best adventures start with something you never thought you'd love.
