The Bull Who Loved Padel

Lily lived in a house at the edge of the Whispering Woods, where an ancient palm tree stood tall in her backyard. Every morning, she'd wave to its swaying leaves before school. One particularly hot afternoon, an orange glow filled the sky as sunset approached. Lily decided to explore deeper into the woods than she'd ever gone before.

Pushing through ferns taller than herself, she stumbled upon something magical—a clearing with a perfect padel court right in the middle of the forest! But what made her gasp was who was playing there.

A enormous brown bull stood holding a tiny padel racket between his hooves. His name was Barnaby, and he was practicing his serve against a stone wall. THWACK! The ball bounced back, and Barnaby trotted sideways to return it.

"You're pretty good!" Lily called out.

Barnaby jumped (which looked more like a small earthquake). He smiled gently. "Would you like to play?"

Lily's eyes widened. "But you're a bull! Bulls are supposed to be fierce and scary!"

Barnaby laughed, a warm rumble like distant thunder. "That's what everyone thinks. But I love padel, papaya smoothies, and making new friends. Want to try?"

They played until the stars appeared. Barnaby let Lily win (he claimed his hooves made him too slow for the net). Afterwards, he invited her to his favorite spot near the palm tree, where he'd piled fresh papayas and oranges.

"Why do you hide back here?" Lily asked, biting into sweet orange segments.

Barnaby looked at his big, gentle hooves. "People only see a bull and get scared. They never stop to ask what I love."

Lily thought about this. "I'm glad I did."

"Me too," Barnaby smiled. "You know, the most interesting friends are often the ones we almost didn't meet."

They met every day after school. Lily taught Barnaby new padel techniques, and he showed her the secret papaya patches he'd discovered throughout the forest. Other children eventually joined them, and soon the Whispering Woods echoed with laughter instead of fearful whispers.

Lily learned something wonderful that summer: the world is full of friends you haven't met yet—all you have to do is be brave enough to say hello, even to a bull playing padel in the woods.
