The Bull Who Loved Padel
Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every Saturday morning, she would rush to the community pool, her towel wrapped around her like a superhero cape. The pool was her kingdom, where she could glide like a fish and dive like a dolphin.
One hot afternoon, while waiting for her swimming lesson to start, Lily heard strange sounds coming from behind the old equipment shed. *Thwack! Thwack! Bounce!* Curious, she peeked around the corner and gasped.
There, standing on a small padel court, was the biggest bull she had ever seen. But this wasn't like any bull from the farm pictures. This bull wore a tiny bandana around his neck and held a padel racket in each hoof—well, somehow.
The bull spotted Lily and froze. His big brown eyes went wide.
"Oh! Hello there," said the bull in a deep, rumbly voice. "I'm Barnaby. I was just... practicing."
Lily's mouth hung open. "You can talk? And you're playing padel?"
Barnaby chuckled, a sound like thunder far away. "Everyone needs a hobby. Bulls aren't all about charging and snorting, you know. I love padel—it makes me feel light as a feather."
He invited Lily to play. At first, she was nervous. Barnaby was enormous! But his movements were gentle and careful. He taught her how to hit the ball just right, how to move her feet, and how to laugh when she missed.
"You're wonderful at this!" Barnaby cheered when Lily scored her first point against him. His smile was as wide as a rainbow.
They played until the sun began to set, painting the sky pink and orange.
"Can you teach me to swim?" Barnaby asked suddenly, looking shy. "I've always dreamed of swimming, but... well, pools aren't exactly made for bulls."
Lily's heart grew three sizes. "Let's ask the pool manager! Maybe there's a special time just for us."
The next week, Lily and Barnaby became the first pair in the community's new "Friends Swim and Play" program. Barnaby learned to paddle around the pool, creating gentle waves that everyone loved. And Lily became a padel champion, with the best coach in the world.
Lily learned that day that friends come in all shapes and sizes, and that the most wonderful discoveries happen when you're brave enough to look behind the shed.
