The Bull Who Loved Orange Spinach

Lily discovered something magical in her grandmother's garden. Behind the rosebushes, a gentle bull named Barnaby was carefully tending to the most unusual plants Lily had ever seen. Their leaves were bright orange and shimmered like tiny suns.

"Are those... orange spinach plants?" Lily asked, adjusting her favorite purple hat.

Barnaby nodded proudly. "Indeed they are! Every morning at sunrise, I sing to them. Would you like to help?"

Lily's eyes sparkled with wonder. She knelt beside the great bull, and together they sang a silly made-up song about dancing vegetables. The orange spinach leaves swayed and glowed even brighter.

"These are special," Barnaby whispered. "Whoever eats them will understand what others are feeling. But you must share them freely, or the magic fades."

That afternoon, Lily's little brother Leo was crying because he couldn't find his toy. Lily carefully plucked one orange spinach leaf and offered it to him. As Leo ate it, his tears stopped. He looked at Lily and said, "You're sad because you want to help me."

Lily nodded, surprised. "I want to fix everything for you."

Leo smiled. "Just being here is enough. That's what makes me happy."

Lily realized the bull's lesson: understanding others' feelings doesn't mean you have to fix everything. Sometimes just being there is the greatest magic of all.

Every day after school, Lily returned to sing with Barnaby and tend the orange spinach. She shared the magical leaves with classmates who were lonely, friends who were angry, and even her teacher who seemed tired.

One day, Barnaby told her, "The garden has flourished because you learned the real secret. The spinach wasn't the magic—you and your kind heart were."

Lily touched her purple hat and smiled. She had found an unexpected friend in a gentle bull, learned that understanding others brings people together, and discovered that the most wonderful magic lives inside a caring heart.

And sometimes, she still visits the garden, singing with Barnaby beneath the glowing orange spinach leaves, grateful for the day she followed her curiosity behind the rosebushes.
