The Bull Who Loved Moonlight Swimming

Lily was the smallest girl in her class, with the messiest curly red **hair** that always bounced when she walked. Every night, she brushed it exactly one hundred times, just like her grandmother taught her.

One summer evening, as Lily sat by her backyard **pool** watching the moonlight dance on the water, something magical happened. Her toy **bull** — a clay figurine she'd made in art class — suddenly stood up on the windowsill and shook his ceramic head.

"I'm Ferdinand," the bull said with a voice like gentle wind chimes. "And tonight, we're going on an adventure."

Lily's eyes grew wide as saucers. "But you're made of clay!"

"Not tonight," Ferdinand winked. "Tonight's a full moon. Anything is possible."

He took her hoof-in-hand, and suddenly they were floating upward, higher and higher, until the backyard pool below looked like a tiny blue coin. They kept rising until they reached the moon itself — which wasn't a cold, gray rock at all, but a giant shimmering **swimming** hole filled with silver liquid that tasted like strawberry dreams.

"The Moon Pool!" Ferdinand said proudly. "I come here every full moon. Care to join me?"

Lily had never **swimming** in moonlight before. The water was weightless, and every stroke made stars bloom around her fingertips. She and Ferdinand played tag among the craters and had tea parties with friendly moon rabbits.

"Will you be my **friend** forever?" Lily asked as they floated on their backs, watching Earth spin like a marble below.

"Friends are forever," said Ferdinand, "especially the ones who swim with you under the stars."

As dawn approached, Ferdinand carried Lily back to her bed, where she fell asleep still smelling of moon-magic and strawberries. When she woke up, the clay bull sat on her nightstand, frozen and still again. But his eyes seemed to sparkle, and Lily knew that next full moon, she'd be waiting by the pool, ready for another adventure.

Some friends, she learned, are magical in ways you never expect — and the best adventures are the ones you share with them, whether they're made of flesh or clay.
