The Bull Who Loved Green Magic

Lily pressed her eye to the telescope made from toilet paper rolls. Being a spy was her favorite game. She spied on birds, she spied on clouds, and sometimes she spied on the grumpy old bull who lived in the pasture behind her house.

He was enormous and black, with horns that curved like crescent moons. All the children were afraid of him, but Lily was curious. She watched him every day from her hiding spot in the oak tree.

One afternoon, Lily was running through her grandmother's garden when she discovered something amazing. Behind the tomatoes, hidden by sunflowers, grew the most beautiful spinach she had ever seen. The leaves sparkled like they were dusted with tiny stars.

"Green magic!" Lily whispered.

That evening, she gathered a big bunch of the sparkling spinach in her basket. The bull was sleeping in the corner of his pasture, his massive chin resting in the dirt. Lily crept closer than she ever had before.

"Excuse me, Mr. Bull?" she called softly.

One enormous eye opened. It was surprisingly gentle.

"I brought you something special," Lily said, holding out the sparkling leaves.

The bull sniffed suspiciously. Then he took a bite, and another. His eyes grew wide. For the first time, the old bull smiled.

Every day after that, Lily came running through the garden with her basket full of green magic. And every day, the bull would wait patiently, his black tail swishing with what looked like happiness.

One magical afternoon, as the bull finished his special snack, he began to speak. His voice was deep and rumbly, like distant thunder.

"Thank you, little friend," he said. "For a hundred years, I only ate grass. I forgot that magic existed."

Lily gasped with wonder.

"The spinach helps me remember my true self," the bull explained. "Long ago, I was the guardian of dreams. Children would ride on my back through star-filled skies. But I grew grumpy and forgot my purpose."

He lowered his enormous head. "Would you like to fly?"

Lily climbed onto his back, and suddenly they were running - but not on the ground. They were running through clouds painted pink and gold by the setting sun. They soared past the moon, where stars twinkled like the magic spinach leaves.

"Always share your magic," the bull told her as they floated back to earth. "Even grumpy bulls need kindness."

From that day on, Lily wasn't just a spy who watched from afar. She was a friend who brought magic wherever she went. And sometimes, on star-filled nights, if you looked carefully, you might see a little girl and a black bull running through the sky, scattering dreams like glittering spinach leaves.
