The Bull Who Loved Green Magic
Emma lived in a house where the garden grew wild and wonderful. But her very least favorite thing was the patch of spinach that Papa planted near the fence. Dark green leaves that looked like little elephant ears – yuck!
One afternoon, while running away from her unfinished lunch, Emma discovered something amazing behind the old oak tree. A tiny bull, no bigger than a puppy, was sleeping in a patch of sunshine. His coat was the color of storm clouds, and his horns were curled like crescent moons.
"Hello there," she whispered.
The bull opened one eye, then the other. Instead of charging or snorting, he simply looked at her with the kindest eyes Emma had ever seen.
"I'm Ferdinand," he seemed to say without speaking, and Emma somehow understood.
Ferdinand wasn't like regular bulls. He didn't want to chase cowboys or snort and paw the ground. What Ferdinand loved most was something very surprising – spinach! Emma couldn't believe it when the tiny bull munched happily on the leaves she'd been avoiding.
As they became friends, Emma learned Ferdinand's secret. Every full moon, magical water bubbled up from the ground beneath the oak tree. When Ferdinand drank it, something amazing happened – he could grow as large as a mountain or small enough to fit in Emma's pocket!
One day, Emma's best friend Tomas got stuck on the other side of the rushing creek after a heavy rain. The bridge had washed away, and Tomas was crying.
Emma knew what to do. She fetched her bull friend, and together they raced to the creek. Ferdinand drank from the magical water spring, grew enormous, and carried Tomas safely across on his broad back.
"He's my best friend too now," Tomas said, patting Ferdinand's nose.
From that day on, Emma discovered that even the things we think we don't like – like spinach – might be exactly what someone else needs most. And sometimes, the most unexpected friendships are the most magical of all.
Every full moon, the three friends could be found running through the garden, Emma and Tomas laughing as they rode on Ferdinand's back through the magical water that sparkled like diamonds under the stars.
