The Bull Who Loved Baseball

Tommy was the smallest boy on his baseball team, but he had the biggest dreams. Every Saturday, he watched the older kids play at the dusty diamond behind the school, wishing he could hit the ball as far as they did.

One afternoon, while practicing his swing alone, Tommy heard a soft snort from behind the old oak tree. Peeking around the trunk, he gasped. A massive bull stood there, his coat as golden as summer sunshine. But this wasn't a scary bull like in storybooks. His eyes were kind and gentle, and he held a forgotten baseball in his mouth.

"Hello there," Tommy whispered, stepping closer. The bull nodded and dropped the ball at Tommy's feet.

That's when Tommy noticed something amazing—hanging from the bull's giant horns was a faded baseball cap, and around his neck was a necklace made of old baseballs. This bull loved baseball!

"Do you want to play?" Tommy asked, his heart pounding with excitement.

The bull nodded enthusiastically. For hours, they played catch. The bull was surprisingly careful, tossing the ball softly with his nose. When Tommy hit the ball, the bull would go running after it, his heavy hooves thumping happily across the grass.

"You're the best baseball buddy ever!" Tommy laughed.

Every day after school, Tommy returned to play with his friend. The bull, whose name was Benny, taught Tommy something important: size doesn't matter when you have heart. Benny was huge but gentle, while Tommy was small but brave.

One day, the older team needed a player. Their catcher was sick. Tommy's hands shook as he stepped onto the field. The other team laughed when they saw how small he was.

But then Benny appeared at the fence, watching with his wise golden eyes. Tommy remembered their games together. He remembered how Benny never gave up, no matter how far the ball went.

Tommy took a deep breath. He could do this.

When the batter hit the ball, Tommy went running faster than ever before. He stretched his glove as far as he could and—SNAP!—caught the ball.

"Out!" the umpire shouted.

Benny let out a happy snort from behind the fence. Tommy had proved that being small doesn't mean you can't do big things.

From that day on, Tommy was the team's best catcher. And every evening, he and Benny played baseball until the stars came out, the smallest boy and the biggest bull, united by their love of the game and each other.
