The Bull Who Loved Baseball

bullbaseballfriend

Tommy loved exploring the meadow behind his house. One sunny afternoon, he heard something strange—*thwack, thwack, thwack!* He crept closer and peeked through the tall grass.

There stood a giant brown bull, but this bull wasn't eating grass or sleeping. He was batting rocks with an old tree branch! *CRACK!* A stone sailed through the air and landed right in Tommy's old baseball mitt, which had blown there days ago.

The bull noticed Tommy and lowered his head shyly. "Hello," Tommy whispered. The bull blinked his big brown eyes and nudged the baseball mitt toward Tommy.

"You like baseball?" Tommy asked. The bull nodded enthusiastically and pointed his hoof at the mitt.

Tommy's heart fluttered with excitement. "I'm Tommy, and I love baseball too! Do you want to be friends?"

The bull's tail wagged happily, and he let out a gentle *moo* that sounded like laughter.

Every day that summer, Tommy and his new friend played baseball in the meadow. The bull, whose name was Bucky, was amazing at batting! He could hit any ball Tommy pitched. In return, Bucky let Tommy ride on his back while they ran bases together.

One day, Tommy's team needed one more player for the big championship game. "Can Bucky play?" Tommy asked his coach.

Coach Miller laughed, "Bulls can't play baseball, Tommy!"

But Tommy insisted. When Bucky trotted onto the field in his very own jersey, the other team gasped. When it was Bucky's turn to bat, the pitcher threw the ball. *CRACK!* Bucky hit it so far it sailed over the trees and into the next county!

Bucky trotted around all four bases while the crowd cheered wildly. Tommy's team won the championship!

That night, Tommy realized something wonderful: sometimes the best friends come in the most unexpected packages. All it takes is an open heart and a little magic.

Bucky became the team's lucky mascot, and every time someone asked about the baseball-playing bull, Tommy would smile and say, "That's my best friend."
