The Bull Who Loved Baseball

Leo stood by the edge of Silver Pond, his favorite baseball clutched tight in his hand. The sun warmed his face as he wound up for the perfect pitch he'd practiced all week. But just as he released the ball, his sneakers slipped on the muddy grass—WHOOSH! The ball sailed toward the water—SPLASH!

"No!" Leo cried. The pond was deep and murky, full of weeds, and he couldn't swim well enough to reach it. That baseball had been a birthday gift from his grandpa. His heart sank.

Then something massive moved through the tall grass. A large brown bull with curved horns emerged from behind the ancient palm tree that leaned over the pond. Leo had always heard stories about how grumpy and dangerous this bull was. His heart pounded.

But the bull didn't charge. Instead, it waded into the water, surprisingly gentle. The bull lowered its massive head and carefully nudged something floating near the lily pads. Beautiful goldfish scattered in all directions, their orange scales flashing like tiny underwater sunsets. The bull kept nudging until—there it was! Leo's baseball.

Using its soft nose, the bull rolled the ball right to Leo's sneakers.

"Thank you!" Leo whispered, amazed. The bull blinked its large, kind eyes and let out a gentle huff, almost like a laugh.

From that day on, Leo visited his new friend every afternoon. They'd sit under the swaying palm fronds while Leo practiced his pitching. The bull would watch patiently, sometimes catching the ball in its mouth and returning it with surprising grace.

The goldfish grew curious too, swimming close to shore to watch this unlikely friendship. They'd splash delightedly when the ball landed near their lily pad home, creating tiny rainbows in the water droplets.

Leo learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the kindest. The bull wasn't mean at all—he was just lonely and wanted a friend.

And so, under the palm tree, by the glittering water, with goldfish for an audience, Leo and the bull discovered that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes. Even between a boy and a bull.
