The Bull Who Loved Baseball
Barnaby was not like the other bulls. While they practiced lowering their heads and pawing at the ground, Barnaby practiced his swing with an old branch he found. He wanted to play baseball more than anything.
But the other bulls laughed. "Bulls don't play baseball!" they snorted. "Bulls are strong and fierce!"
Barnaby's best friend was a tiny sparrow named Pip. Pip believed in Barnaby's dream when no one else did.
One sunny afternoon, something magical happened. Barnaby was sitting by the fence, watching children play baseball in the nearby field. Suddenly, an orange rolled down the hill—the most perfect, round orange he had ever seen.
"What a peculiar orange," Pip chirped, landing on Barnaby's shoulder. "It's perfectly round!"
Barnaby nudged the orange with his nose. It rolled smoothly across the grass. He gave it a gentle tap with his hoof. It sailed through the air!
"That's not just any orange," Pip realized. "That's a magical baseball!"
Barnaby's eyes widened. He had an idea. He built a small baseball field behind the barn. He used the magical orange as his ball. Every day, he practiced hitting, catching, and running bases. The orange glowed brighter each time Barnaby's love for the game grew stronger.
The other bulls watched from a distance, curious but still skeptical.
Then came the day the children's baseball rolled into the pasture. They were too afraid to retrieve it with all the bulls around. But Barnaby trotted over, gently picked up the ball in his mouth, and carried it back to the fence.
The children gasped in amazement. One boy, Tommy, spoke up. "Hey, that bull looks like he knows baseball!"
"Can he play?" asked a girl with braids.
Barnaby nodded enthusiastically.
The children invited Barnaby to join their game. He was careful and gentle. He used his horns like a bat, hitting the ball with precision. He caught fly balls in his mouth and ran the bases with surprising grace.
The other bulls watched in awe. They had never seen anything like it.
From that day on, Barnaby taught all the bulls how to play baseball. Every sunny afternoon, you could see a whole herd of bulls playing with the children. And whenever someone truly loved the game, a new magical orange would appear.
Barnaby showed everyone that being yourself is the bravest thing you can be. And sometimes, the most unlikely friends make the best teammates.
