The Bull Who Loved Baseball
Leo walked through the meadow behind his house, carrying his favorite baseball and glove. He always played alone, wishing for a friend who loved the game as much as he did.
That's when he saw the bull.
But this wasn't an ordinary bull. Barnaby was enormous and gentle, with golden-brown fur and the kindest eyes Leo had ever seen. And strangest of all—Barnaby was holding a baseball bat in his mouth.
"Want to play?" Leo asked, his voice trembling.
Barnaby nodded enthusiastically and trotted to the makeshift home plate Leo had drawn in the dirt. For hours, they played. The bull was terrible at batting but brilliant at catching fly balls in his mouth. Leo laughed until his sides hurt.
"You're my best friend," Leo told him as the sun began to set.
Suddenly, dark clouds gathered overhead. CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, striking a nearby tree. To Leo's amazement, papayas began raining down—glowing, magical papayas that hummed with energy.
Barnaby caught one in his mouth and swallowed it whole. Suddenly, the bull's eyes sparkled with blue light. He could run faster than the wind!
Leo ate one too. He felt weightless, like he could fly.
"Let's play one more game!" Leo shouted.
Together, friend and bull played the most magical baseball game ever. Barnaby hit home runs that disappeared into the clouds. Leo caught balls while jumping higher than the treetops. The lightning illuminated their field like a stadium, and each papaya they ate made them faster, stronger, more alive.
When dawn broke, the magic faded. Barnaby returned to being a regular bull, but he still remembered their game.
"Every day," Leo promised, scratching between his friend's horns. "We'll play baseball every single day."
And they did, because the best magic of all isn't lightning or papayas—it's finding a friend who loves exactly what you love.
