The Bull Who Hit Moonballs
Lily and Sam loved to spy on the old pasture behind their house. Every afternoon, they'd hide behind the oak tree and watch something amazing.
A enormous bull named Barnaby played baseball all by himself! He'd toss the ball up with his nose and swing his mighty horns—CRACK! The ball would soar into the clouds and return minutes later, glowing with stardust.
"His secret must be in his hair," Sam whispered. Barnaby's shaggy brown coat sparkled with tiny lights, as if he'd rolled in fairy dust.
One day, Lily's baseball rolled into the pasture. She tiptoed toward Barnaby, expecting him to charge. Instead, the bull gently nudged the ball back with his nose.
"Want to play?" his voice rumbled like warm thunder.
Lily and Sam spent all afternoon hitting moonballs with Barnaby. He taught them his special trick: eating colorful flowers that made their fur—or hair—shine like rainbow sunshine.
"These aren't just flowers," Barnaby explained. "They're magic vitamins from the Moon Garden. They make dreams grow strong."
When a mean farmer threatened to sell Barnaby, the children knew what to do. They gave the bull their biggest, brightest moonball. Barnaby hit it so high it created a bridge of stardust to the Moon Garden, where he'd be safe forever.
Every night, the children spy on the sky. They still see Barnaby's shaggy silhouette hitting moonballs among the stars, and sometimes—just sometimes—a glowing baseball drops into their backyard, filled with moon-dust vitamins for sweet dreams.
