The Bull Who Guarded Wonder

Lily loved baseball. Every afternoon, she'd grab her favorite ball—the one painted with swirling stars like the night sky—and practice in the backyard. But today, the ball had other ideas.

When Lily threw it toward the old oak tree, the ball didn't come back down. It shimmered and vanished.

"I'll find you!" Lily called, grabbing her spyglass—a cardboard tube wrapped in sparkly purple paper. She was going to be a detective, a seeker of secrets.

Behind the oak tree, she discovered something impossible: a miniature pyramid made of golden sand, glowing softly in the afternoon light. The door was shaped like a baseball diamond.

Inside, everything was swimming—literally. The air rippled like water, and Lily had to paddle through it, laughing as her hair floated around her face.

At the center of the pyramid sat a bull. But not a scary one—this bull was the color of warm honey, with a coat that sparkled like she'd rolled him in glitter. His horns were curved like crescent moons.

"Welcome, Lily," the bull said gently. "I've been waiting for someone who still believes in magic."

"You can talk?" Lily gasped.

"I can do many things. I guard the Chamber of Lost Toys." The bull nodded toward a pile of forgotten treasures—dolls, trucks, marbles, and Lily's baseball.

"Why do you hide them?" Lily asked, swimming closer.

"Children stop believing," the bull said sadly. "When they forget to wonder, their toys lose their sparkle. I keep them safe until someone like you comes looking."

Lily touched her baseball. It felt warm, like it remembered all their afternoons together.

"I believe," she whispered. "And I'll always look for magic."

The bull smiled—or at least, his eyes crinkled kindly. "Then take your baseball back. But promise you'll be a spy for wonder. Watch for the extraordinary hiding in ordinary places."

Lily promised, paddling back through the swimming air, clutching her ball. When she emerged from the pyramid, her backyard looked different—full of possibilities.

That night, Lily fell asleep holding her baseball, dreaming of honey-gold bulls and glowing pyramids. She was more than a baseball player now. She was a guardian of wonder, a spy for magic, and a friend to the bull who taught her that believing is the greatest adventure of all.
