The Bull Who Dreamed of Waves
Barnaby was no ordinary bull. While other cows contentedly chewed clover in the meadow, Barnaby spent his days at the edge of Crystal Lake, watching the water sparkle like scattered diamonds. He longed to join the ducks and fish frolicking in the cool blue, but barnyard bulls don't swim.
One golden afternoon, as Barnaby stared wistfully at the ripples, the water began to glow. A magnificent creature rose from the depths—a sphinx with emerald feathers and eyes like ancient amber. She perched gracefully on a lily pad.
"I am Seraphina," she spoke, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've watched you for many moons, little bull. You wish to dance with the waves?"
Barnaby nodded, his heart fluttering.
"Then answer my riddle," Seraphina purred. "What must you leave behind to find something new?"
The young bull thought deeply. The sun warmed his spotted back as the answer came to him. "Fear," he said softly. "I must leave behind my fear."
Seraphina's golden eyes shone with approval. "Indeed. Courage isn't the absence of fear, but the willingness to try anyway."
She touched his forehead with a feather. Magic tingled through his veins. When he stepped into the water, instead of sinking, he floated! His heavy legs became graceful as he kicked and paddled. He was swimming!
"You always knew how," Seraphina whispered mysteriously. "You only needed to believe."
That summer, Barnaby taught all the farm animals to swim. And every evening, the sphinx returned to watch them splash under the sunset, her emerald feathers gleaming.
Barnaby learned that the bravest thing isn't being big or strong—it's trying something new, even when you're afraid. And sometimes, the most unlikely friends become the best ones of all.
