The Bull Who Dreamed of the Sea

Lily found the floppy blue hat in her attic, but it wasn't just any hat. When she put it on, it whispered, "Take me to the one who dreams big."

In a swirl of sparkles, Lily found herself standing in a green meadow where a enormous bull sat alone. But this wasn't a scary bull—his eyes were sad and gentle. "I'm Barnaby," the bull sighed. "All the other bulls run and chase, but I just want to see the ocean."

Lily gasped. "I can help!" She grabbed her hat's brim, and WHOOSH—they were standing on a sandy beach.

Barnaby's eyes widened like full moons. He'd never seen so much blue! But then he noticed something shimmering near the shore. A tiny goldfish was flopping in the sand, trapped when the tide went out.

"Help!" squeaked the goldfish. "I'm Glimmer! I can't breathe!"

Lily looked at her hat. It glowed golden. "The hat knows what to do!" She placed the magical hat in the shallow water, and it became a perfect little pool. Glimmer swam happily.

"Thank you!" Glimmer said. "I'll grant you one wish!"

Barnaby didn't wish for anything for himself. "I wish Lily could visit me anytime she wants."

Glimmer's scales sparkled brighter than sunshine. "Your kindness is your magic," she said. A beautiful palm tree sprang up from the sand, its fronds waving in the breeze. "Sit beneath this palm tree, and think of each other. The magic of friendship will bring you together."

Lily hugged Barnaby's giant neck. "I'll visit every day!"

And she did. Every time she wore her blue hat and thought of her friend, she found herself under the palm tree, where Barnaby waited by the sea, the gentlest bull who ever dreamed big dreams.

The magic hat taught Lily something wonderful: the best adventures aren't the ones you find—they're the ones you create for others.
