The Bull Who Dreamed of Swimming

Lily was running through the meadow, her bare feet touching the soft grass, when she heard the strangest sound. It wasn't a bird. It wasn't the wind. It was the sound of something big splashing.

Curious, Lily followed the noise until she reached a hidden pool tucked between ancient oak trees. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight. And there, standing at the edge, was the biggest bull she had ever seen.

But this bull wasn't fierce or scary. His golden coat gleamed, and his dark eyes looked sad.

"Hello," Lily whispered, approaching slowly. "Are you lost?"

The bull shook his massive head. "No. But I have a secret dream."

Lily sat down on a mossy rock. "What kind of dream?"

"I want to swim," said the bull. "All the other bulls say I'm too big. They say bulls don't swim. But every night, I dream of floating in this pool, weightless as a cloud."

Lily thought about how she had wanted to learn to ride her bike without training wheels, but her brother said she was too small. She remembered how scared she had been.

"Sometimes things seem impossible until someone believes in you," Lily said softly. "I could help you."

The bull's eyes lit up like stars. "You would?"

Together, they practiced. Lily waded into the pool, showing how the water could hold her up. Day after day, Lily visited the pool, cheering as the bull stepped deeper, then deeper still.

Finally, on the warmest afternoon of summer, the bull took a deep breath and pushed off. His massive body floated! He kicked his powerful legs, creating gentle waves. The bull was swimming!

"I'm doing it!" he cried, splashing joyfully.

Lily cheered from the bank, clapping her hands. Other animals from the forest gathered to watch—a wise old owl, a family of rabbits, even a shy deer. They had never seen a swimming bull before.

The bull swam to Lily and nuzzled her hand with his wet nose. "Thank you for believing in my impossible dream."

"And thank you for teaching me that even the biggest dreams can come true," Lily said.

From that day on, whenever Lily was running through the meadow, she would stop at the pool. Sometimes she swam with the bull. Sometimes she just watched, marveling at how the most impossible dreams can become the most wonderful adventures.
