The Bull Who Dreamed of Flying
Barnaby was no ordinary bull. While the other cows on Sunnybrook Farm contentedly chewed clover, Barnaby spent his days gazing at the clouds and imagining what it would feel like to soar among them.
One summer afternoon, something extraordinary happened. Barnaby was trotting past the old oak tree when he spotted something magical—a sparkling blue hat lying in the grass. The moment he nudged it with his nose, the hat floated up and settled perfectly between his horns.
"Whew!" a tiny voice squeaked. Barnaby looked down to see Pippin, a mouse who lived in the tree hollow. "That's the Wonder Hat! It grants one special wish to whoever wears it with a pure heart!"
Barnaby's eyes widened. "I wish I could fly!" he mooed softly.
The hat began to glow, shimmering like a thousand fireflies. Suddenly, Barnaby felt lighter than a dandelion seed. His hooves left the ground, and he was floating! The bull was flying!
"Follow me!" Pippin called, scurrying up the tree. They soared over the farm, past the children playing baseball in the field. "Look up!" a little girl shouted, dropping her bat as Barnaby did loop-de-loops in the sky.
Soon they reached Crystal Lake, where the water sparkled like diamonds. Barnaby had always dreamed of swimming, but bulls sink like stones in ordinary water. Yet with the Wonder Hat, he glided across the surface as if skating on moonbeams, creating ripples of rainbow colors.
Children from everywhere came running to see the flying, swimming bull. They laughed and clapped, and Barnaby felt happier than he'd ever been. But as the sun began to set, the hat's glow faded.
"Time's up!" Pippin squeaked. The hat gently floated back to the grass.
Barnaby didn't mind. As he walked home that evening, surrounded by new friends—both mice and children—he realized something wonderful. He hadn't just flown through the sky. He'd flown into the hearts of everyone who had dared to believe in magic.
And sometimes, just sometimes, when the sun hits the old oak tree just right, you can still see Barnaby standing there, horns held high, dreaming of his next adventure among the clouds.
