The Bull Who Dreamed of Flying
Barnaby was no ordinary bull. While the other bulls on Green Meadow Farm spent their days munching grass and snorting at flies, Barnaby spent his days lying on his back, watching the clouds drift by and dreaming.
"Someday," he whispered to his best friend, a tiny orange goldfish named Fin who lived in a puddle near the barn, "I'm going to touch those clouds."
Fin would splash excitedly. "You can do it, Barnaby! You just need the right magic!"
One sunny afternoon, Barnaby's friend Lily tossed her bright red baseball across the field. When Barnaby trotted over to return it, something glittered in the grass beside it—a strange, glowing tablet shaped like a heart.
"What's this?" Barnaby wondered. Fin swam to the edge of his puddle to get a closer look.
"It's a Cloud Vitamin!" Fin exclaimed. "My grandpa told me stories about these! They say if a bull eats one, he can fly for a whole day!"
Barnaby couldn't believe his luck. But just as he bent down to take it, grumpy Old Man McGregor's voice boomed across the field. "Hey! Get away from my prize-winning vitamin, you dumb beast!"
The bull looked at the vitamin, then at McGregor's angry face, then at little Lily who had come running toward them. Without thinking, Barnaby nudged the vitamin toward the girl with his wet nose.
"For you," he seemed to say.
Lily's eyes widened. "Barnaby, you're so kind!" She picked it up and held it in her small palm. "This isn't a vitamin for bulls—it's my grandma's medicine! I lost it yesterday!" She hugged Barnaby's giant neck. "Thank you for finding it. You're the best friend ever."
That night, under a sky full of twinkling stars, Barnaby lay in his usual spot, feeling a little sad about his lost chance to fly. Fin splashed beside him.
"You know," the goldfish said softly, "maybe you don't need magic vitamins to fly."
Barnaby closed his eyes and smiled. In his dreams, he was soaring through the sky, but this time he wasn't alone—Lily was on his back, laughing, and Fin was swimming through the clouds beside them.
Some bulls are strong. Some bulls are fast. But Barnaby was something better. He was kind. And kindness, he discovered, was its own kind of magic—magic that could make anyone's heart soar like a baseball into the endless blue sky.
