The Bull Who Dreamed of Baseball
In a meadow filled with wildflowers, lived a giant brown bull named Barnaby. But Barnaby wasn't like other bulls. While his friends practiced charging and snorting, Barnaby had a secret dream—he loved baseball.
Every afternoon, he'd creep to the edge of Farmer McGregor's field and watch the children play. He studied how they swung the bats, how they caught the ball, how they ran the bases. Oh, how he wished he could join in! But a 1,500-pound bull doesn't exactly fit in a baseball game.
One day, Barnaby noticed something shimmering in the old farm pond. It was a goldfish named Fiona with scales like tiny suns.
"Why the long face, big friend?" Fiona asked, splashing happily.
"I want to play baseball," Barnaby sighed. "But I'm too big and clumsy."
Fiona swam closer. "Big isn't bad, silly bull! Big means powerful. And clumsy just means you need practice."
The next day, the children arrived with something new—a padel for playing padel tennis against the barn wall. Little Timmy couldn't hit the ball to save his life. He frowned, ready to give up.
Barnaby couldn't watch anymore. He trotted over, carefully lowered his massive head, and nudged the padel toward Timmy with his nose.
"You... want to help?" Timmy asked, eyes wide.
Barnaby nodded. With the bull standing guard, Timmy tried again. Barnaby used his huge body as a backstop, catching every missed ball with his shoulders and chest. The children cheered! They'd never seen anything like it.
Farmer McGregor appeared, shaking his head. But when he saw Barnaby gently playing with the children, his expression softened. "Well I'll be," he chuckled. "That bull's got more sportsmanship than most folks I know."
That summer, Barnaby became the team's unofficial coach and mascot. The goldfish Fiona often swam in her portable bowl during games, offering advice like "Keep your eye on the ball" and "Believe in yourself!"
Barnaby learned that being different wasn't a weakness—it was his strength. And the children learned that friends come in all shapes and sizes, even ones with horns and hooves.
Sometimes the most unexpected friendships become the most magical ones. And sometimes, all you need is someone who believes in you—even if that someone is a goldfish and a dreamer of a bull.
