The Bull Who Dreamed of Baseball
Leo loved baseball more than anything in the world. Every day after school, he'd grab his favorite orange baseball and run to the empty field behind his house. But there was one problem — Leo had no one to play with.
One sunny afternoon, Leo sat under the tall palm tree at the edge of the field, tossing his baseball up and catching it again. sigh.
"I wish I had a friend to play with," he whispered to the breeze.
Suddenly, he heard a soft snort behind him. Leo turned around and gasped. Standing there was the biggest, most magnificent bull he had ever seen! But this bull looked different somehow — his eyes were kind and gentle, and he was watching Leo's baseball with pure wonder.
The bull took a careful step forward, then another. He lowered his massive head and nudged the orange baseball softly with his nose. The ball rolled toward Leo.
"Do you... want to play?" Leo asked, his eyes wide.
The bull nodded enthusiastically!
Leo couldn't believe it. He stood up and tossed the baseball gently. The bull watched it arc through the air, then trotted after it with surprising grace. He caught it in his mouth and trotted back, dropping it carefully at Leo's feet.
"You're amazing!" Leo cheered. "I'm Leo, and this is the best game ever!"
They played until the sun began to set, painting the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks. The bull would charge after the ball like a superhero, then return it gently, as if it were made of precious glass.
"I'll call you Barnaby," Leo decided, patting the bull's soft forehead. "Tomorrow, same time?"
Barnaby nodded so hard his whole body wiggled.
Every day that week, Leo and Barnaby played their magical baseball game under the palm tree. Leo taught Barnaby to catch with his hooves. Barnaby taught Leo that sometimes the most wonderful friends come in the most unexpected packages.
On the final day, as the sun set, Barnaby touched Leo's hand with his nose one last time. Then, with a joyful snort, he galloped away across the golden field toward an orange grove in the distance.
Leo waved until Barnaby disappeared from sight. He knew their friendship was real — some magic stays in your heart forever. And every time Leo picked up his orange baseball under the palm tree, he could almost feel Barnaby's gentle spirit beside him, ready for another game.
