The Bull Who Dreamed of Baseball
Mia had the curliest hair in town—springs and coils that bounced when she walked and sparkled like sunshine in the rain. Every day, she'd visit her pet goldfish, Goldie, who swam in a crystal bowl by her window.
One Tuesday, something magical happened. Goldie popped her head above the water and said, "Mia, I know a bull who wants to play baseball!"
Mia nearly dropped her hairbrush. "A bull? Playing baseball?"
"His name is Barnaby," Goldie bubbled. "He lives in the meadow beyond the old cable car station. He's gentle as a cloud, but nobody will play with him because he's so big."
Mia's eyes widened with wonder. "Let's help him!"
She packed her baseball glove and some apples, then followed the winding path past the abandoned cable car station until she found Barnaby—a massive bull with the kindest brown eyes she'd ever seen. He was practicing his swing with an old tree branch.
"Hello!" Mia called. "I'm Mia, and this is Goldie." She held up the fishbowl carefully.
Barnaby's face lit up. "You came!"
They played baseball all afternoon. Mia taught Barnaby how to pitch, and he was amazing—his throws were like thunder but always landed gently in her glove. Goldie cheered from the sidelines, splashing water with her tail.
"Nobody wanted to play with me before," Barnaby said softly. "They said I was too big."
Mia smiled and patted his giant nose. "Sometimes the best friends come in unexpected sizes."
From that day on, Mia, Goldie, and Barnaby played baseball every week. The other children watched, amazed, and soon joined in too. Barnaby became the town's most beloved baseball coach.
And Mia? She wore her curly hair prouder than ever, because she knew that true friendship, like her wonderful coils, comes in all shapes and sizes—even between a girl, a goldfish, and a bull who loved baseball.
