The Bull Who Dreamed of Baseball
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While the other bulls on Sunny Meadow Farm spent their days stomping and snorting, Barnaby spent his days watching the children play baseball through the wooden fence. His eyes would light up when he saw the ball soar through the sky like a little white moon.
One afternoon, old Farmer Jenkins left his favorite red hat on the fence post. It was a magnificent hat with a wide brim that caught the afternoon sun. Barnaby had always loved that hat, but today he had a daring idea.
With a gentle nudge of his nose, Barnaby knocked the hat off the post. It tumbled down and landed perfectly between his horns. The other farm animals gasped! Buster, the farm's scruffy brown dog, bounded over, tail wagging furiously.
"Barnaby!" barked Buster, who could talk to the animals because he was part of the farm's magic. "You look splendid! But why do you wear Farmer Jenkins's hat?"
"I'm going to play baseball," said Barnaby, his voice deep and rumbly like thunder in the distance. The other cows mooed with laughter. Bulls don't play baseball!
But Buster believed. "I'll help you! We'll practice every day when the farmer sleeps."
So they did. Buster threw stones for Barnaby to hit with his mighty tail. The hat made Barnaby feel brave, like he could do anything. One magical morning, a real baseball rolled through the fence from the children's game. Barnaby hit it so hard with his tail that it flew all the way back to the children!
The children spotted him — the enormous bull wearing the red hat, playing baseball. Instead of being scared, they cheered. They'd never seen anything so wonderful! They invited Barnaby and Buster to join their game.
That summer, Barnaby became the most famous baseball player in town. The other bulls finally understood: magic isn't about being what others expect. It's about having the courage to wear a hat, chase a dream, and let your friends believe in you.
And sometimes, the most unlikely heroes make the best teammates of all.
