The Bull Who Dreamed in Orange

Barnaby was not like other bulls. While they grazed peacefully in the meadow, Barnaby spent his days gazing at the sky, watching clouds float by like cotton candy dreams.

"I want to run fast as the wind," Barnaby told his friend Ruby, a tiny sparrow who often perched on his nose. "I want to see what's beyond the hills."

Ruby chirped happily. "Then you must chase your dreams, Barnaby! But perhaps start with running to the orange grove first. Farmer McGregor always needs help picking the sweetest oranges."

Barnaby's eyes widened. Oranges! He had never seen an orange up close, only heard stories from the older bulls about the magical fruit that tasted like sunshine itself.

The next morning, when the sun painted the sky gold and pink, Barnaby began running. His hooves thundered across the meadow, and for the first time, he felt what it meant to be truly alive. The wind rushed past his ears, and the world blurred into streaks of green and gold.

When he reached the orange grove, Barnaby gasped in wonder. Hundreds of orange balls hung from the trees like little suns, glowing against the green leaves. The air smelled sweet and citrusy, making his nose wrinkle happily.

"Hello there, big fellow!" called Farmer McGregor, surprised to see a bull in his orchard. "Would you like to help?"

Barnaby nodded enthusiastically. With Ruby directing him from above, he gently knocked oranges down with his velvety nose. Farmer McGregor caught them in his basket, laughing with delight.

"Never had a bull help me before!" the farmer exclaimed. "As thanks, you must try one." He sliced open an orange, and Barnaby tasted the juicy sweetness. It was even better than the stories—like eating a piece of sunshine!

"I did it," Barnaby told Ruby on the walk home, his mouth still sticky with orange juice. "I ran, I explored, and I made a new friend."

Ruby fluffed her feathers proudly. "And this is just the beginning, Barnaby. Imagine what other adventures await!"

That night, Barnaby drifted to sleep with orange-scented breath, dreaming of all the places he would go, all the friends he would meet, and all the oranges he would taste. Sometimes, he learned, the bravest thing you can do is simply take that first running step into the unknown—especially when you have a friend by your side.
