The Bull Who Danced With Stars

Lily loved her floppy yellow hat more than anything. It had belonged to her grandmother, and sometimes, just sometimes, it made her feel brave. One sunny morning, wearing her favorite hat, she wandered into the garden behind their house.

Something rustled in the spinach patch. Lily froze. A enormous bull stood there, nibbling the bright green leaves like they were candy. His fur was the color of sunset oranges.

"You're supposed to be scary," Lily whispered.

The bull looked up with gentle brown eyes and chewed happily. Lily noticed something shiny beside him — a silver padel racket, glinting in the sunlight.

"That's my brother's!" she gasped.

The bull nudged the racket toward her with his soft nose. Then, magically, he trotted to the orange tree and returned with the sweetest, brightest orange Lily had ever seen. He placed it carefully at her feet.

Lily understood. The bull wasn't eating the spinach — he was tending the garden! Someone had left the racket here, and he'd been guarding it. Together, they picked the ripest oranges and harvested fresh spinach.

"Would you like to play padel?" Lily asked, holding up the racket.

The bull's tail wagged like a happy dog's. Lily tossed the orange, and the bull bounded after it, leaping with surprising grace. They played until sunset, the orange flying through the air like a small sun.

That evening, Lily's family enjoyed the most delicious salad. "Where did you find such fresh spinach?" her mother asked.

Lily touched her yellow hat and smiled. Sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the best friends. And sometimes, magic happens when you least expect it — right in your own garden.
