The Bull Who Danced with Rain
Barnaby was not like other bulls. While his brothers chewed grass and grunted, Barnaby spent his days watching clouds. He imagined them as giant ships sailing across a blue sea he'd never seen.
One hot afternoon, as the sun baked the farm pond into a muddy puddle, Barnaby heard a tiny splash. A small green frog sat on the last remaining lily pad.
"Hello there," said Barnaby gently. "I'm Barnaby. What's your name?"
"I'm Finn," croaked the frog. "And I'm in trouble. The water is disappearing, and I can't hop far enough to find more."
Barnaby's heart squeezed. He remembered Grandpa Bull's stories about a hidden spring beyond the Old Oak Forest. But Grandpa had warned: "Only the bravest bulls dare enter those woods."
Barnaby looked at Finn, whose green skin was already drying in the heat. Without hesitation, he lowered his massive head.
"Climb on my back, little friend," Barnaby said. "I'll carry you to water."
Finn hopped onto Barnaby's shoulders, and together they entered the shadowy forest. Twisted branches grabbed at Barnaby's legs. Strange hoots echoed around them. But with Finn's gentle directions—"Left at the mossy rock! Duck under that fern!"—they pressed on.
Suddenly, a magnificent bull with silver horns blocked their path.
"Who dares enter my forest?" the guardian thundered.
Barnaby trembled but stood tall. "Please, sir. My friend needs water. The farm pond is almost gone."
The guardian's eyes softened. "You traveled through danger for another? That is true courage." He stepped aside to reveal a crystal spring bubbling from the earth.
Finn leaped into the cool water with joy. But Barnaby noticed something—the spring fed an underground stream that flowed beneath their farm.
"I know how to save everyone!" Barnaby exclaimed.
When they returned, Barnaby showed the farmer the hidden spring. Soon, pipes carried fresh water to the farm pond, filling it higher than ever.
That evening, as Barnaby watched clouds drift by, Finn sat on his favorite rock by the sparkling water. Sometimes, Barnaby discovered, the greatest adventures begin with helping a friend.
