The Bull Who Danced on Water

Lily loved her red straw hat more than anything. It had rainbow ribbons that fluttered like butterfly wings when she ran. Every morning, she'd race through the meadow near her house, her hat bouncing on her head.

One hot afternoon, Lily followed the babbling brook past the old willow tree. There, by the sparkling water, she saw something extraordinary. A massive bull stood by the edge, his coat shimmering like liquid silver under the sun. But what amazed Lily most was that the bull wasn't drinking. He was watching the water dance.

Tiny droplets rose from the stream, swirling around the bull's horns like diamond fairies. The bull caught Lily's gaze with eyes as warm as honey.

"Hello, little one," the bull spoke in a voice like rolling thunder wrapped in velvet. "I've been waiting for a friend."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"Magic flows wherever kindness goes," the bull replied wisely. "I am Balthazar, guardian of these waters. But I've grown lonely watching the water dance alone."

The bull looked so sad that Lily's heart squeezed. She noticed his magnificent horns were bare, no decorations at all. Without thinking, she pulled off her beloved red hat and placed it gently between his horns.

"This will make you beautiful," Lily said generously.

Balthazar's eyes sparkled with gratitude. The moment the hat settled on his head, the water erupted into the most spectacular display. Crystalline fountains shot upward, forming shapes of leaping fish, blooming flowers, and even a tiny Lily hat.

"Thank you for your gift," Balthazar said warmly. "Your kindness has awakened the water's true magic. Now we can both watch it dance together."

Every day after school, Lily returned to the stream. She and Balthazar became the best of friends, watching the water perform enchanting shows just for them. The bull always wore her red hat with pride, and Lily learned that the greatest magic wasn't in the dancing fountains or the talking bull—it was in the joy of giving freely to others.

Sometimes, on hot summer days, if you look carefully by a quiet stream, you might still see them there—a girl with wind-tousled hair and a silver bull wearing a red hat, both laughing as water dances around them like old friends reunited.
