The Bull Who Couldn't Hit

Barnaby was the smallest bull in the whole meadow, but he had the biggest dream. While other bulls practiced charging and snorting, Barnaby wanted to play baseball.

Every afternoon, the farm boy Leo would practice his swing near the barn. Barnaby watched from behind the fence, his brown eyes filled with wonder. He would practice swinging his imaginary bat with his tail.

One magical morning, Barnaby discovered something glowing in the garden. An ordinary orange sat on a fence post, but it shimmered like a tiny sun. When Barnaby nudged it with his nose, the orange rolled toward the baseball field.

"Come back!" Barnaby called. To his surprise, the orange stopped and waited. Barnaby followed it through the fence and onto the grassy field where Leo played.

The boy gasped when he saw the bull. But Barnaby didn't charge. Instead, he carefully nudged the magical orange toward home plate.

Leo's eyes widened. He pulled out his iphone and snapped a photo. "Nobody will believe this," he whispered.

The boy placed a baseball on the ground. Barnaby's tail twitched with excitement. WHACK! He hit the ball so far it disappeared into the clouds.

From that day on, Barnaby and Leo were the best of friends. They played baseball every afternoon. The magical orange became their lucky mascot, glowing brighter with each amazing hit.

But Barnaby had a secret. Before every game, he would sneak into the garden and eat a big bunch of spinach. Leo's grandmother had told him spinach made you strong, and Barnaby wanted to be the strongest baseball player ever.

One day, the town's baseball team needed a player. Their usual first baseman was sick. The coach looked at Barnaby skeptically.

"Bulls can't play baseball," he said.

But then Barnaby stepped up to the plate. The magical orange glowed extra bright. The spinach gave him courage. Barnaby hit the ball so hard that it created a rainbow across the sky as it flew.

The whole town cheered. From that day forward, nobody ever said bulls couldn't follow their dreams.

Barnaby taught everyone something important: dreams don't have size, and friends come in all shapes. Sometimes, the most unexpected players make the most magical teammates.
