The Bull Who Could Not Run

Barnaby was a bull with a problem. In the field where all the young bulls practiced running and jumping every morning, Barnaby would just watch. His legs were sturdy and strong, but they were also very, very clumsy.

"Look at Barnaby!" the other bulls would laugh as they galloped across the meadow, their hooves thundering like summer storms. "He's not running—he's wobbling!"

Barnaby hung his head and walked to the old wooden dock by the pond. There, hidden among the reeds, he found something strange and beautiful. It was a paddle, carved from silvery wood with stars that seemed to shimmer in the sunlight.

"What are you doing with that padel?" asked a tiny voice.

Barnaby looked down. A little dragonfly with rainbow wings was perched on the handle.

"It's a paddle," Barnaby said softly. "And I'm not doing anything. I can't run like the others. I'm just a clumsy bull who can't do anything right."

The dragonfly flew in a happy circle around Barnaby's nose. "That's not true! Every creature has their own special magic. Maybe you haven't found yours yet!"

Barnaby sighed and stepped into the old rowboat tied to the dock. The moment the magical paddle touched the water, something amazing happened. The boat didn't just move—it glided! Barnaby wasn't clumsy anymore. With each stroke of the paddle, he felt powerful and graceful.

By the time the other bulls finished running laps and came to drink from the pond, Barnaby was skimming across the water like a dream, leaving sparkles wherever he went.

"How is he doing that?" the bulls whispered, their eyes wide.

Barnaby paddled to shore, smiling for the first time in moons. "I found my magic," he said simply.

The next day, something wonderful happened. The fastest young bull asked Barnaby to teach him how to paddle. Soon, bulls were coming from all around—not to run, but to discover their own special gifts. Some painted. Some sang. Some danced in ways Barnaby had never imagined.

Barnaby was no longer the bull who could not run. He was Barnaby the Brave, the bull who helped others find their own magic.

And the little dragonfly? She still visits, zipping around the pond, reminding everyone that the most important thing you can do is be wonderfully, perfectly yourself.
