The Bull Who Caught Lightning
Ten-year-old Mateo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he'd practice behind his house near the papaya tree, tossing his ball high and dreaming of becoming a famous player.
One stormy day, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Mateo spotted something strange. A massive bull stood near the papaya tree, watching him with gentle brown eyes. Mateo had never seen a bull act so calmly.
"Want to play?" Mateo asked jokingly. To his surprise, the bull nodded!
CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, striking the papaya tree. Suddenly, the papayas began to glow like tiny lightning bugs. The bull stepped forward and caught one of the glowing fruits in its mouth.
"Throw it here!" Mateo called, holding up his baseball glove.
The bull tossed the glowing papaya through the air. Mateo caught it easily – the perfect throw!
They played catch as lightning danced around them. The papayas flashed with each toss, lighting up the storm like magic fireflies. Mateo laughed harder than he ever had before.
"You're the best baseball player I've ever met!" Mateo cheered.
The bull bowed its head proudly, then nudged a papaya toward Mateo. It was still glowing softly, like it held a piece of lightning inside.
"For luck," the bull seemed to say with its kind eyes.
As suddenly as it had appeared, the storm faded. The bull walked away into the mist, leaving Mateo with his magical papaya and a heart full of wonder.
That night, Mateo placed the glowing papaya on his nightstand. It still sparkled like captured starlight. He drifted to sleep dreaming of his friend the bull, knowing that sometimes the most magical things happen when you least expect them – and that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes.
The next morning, his mother called, "Mateo! You made the team!"
Mateo smiled at his papaya, now glowing brighter than ever. "Thanks, Bull," he whispered.
From that day on, whenever Mateo played baseball, he played with the magic of lightning and the heart of a bull – and he always remembered that the best friends are the ones who appear when you need them most.
