The Bull Who Caught Lightning

Max loved visiting his grandfather's farm, but nobody warned him about the stormy secret in the pasture.

One rainy afternoon, as Max watched from the porch, he saw something impossible. The old bull—the one Grandpa said was too grumpy to approach—was standing in the middle of the field during a thunderstorm. Suddenly, a fork of lightning flashed across the dark sky. Instead of running away, the bull leaped gracefully and caught the lightning bolt with his horns!

Max couldn't believe his eyes. The lightning didn't hurt the bull—it glowed softly between his horns like a magical lantern. Then the bull tossed the lightning into the air again, caught it, and repeated this over and over, dancing happily in the rain.

Curiosity overcoming fear, Max grabbed his baseball glove and ran outside.

"Hey!" Max called through the rain. "Can I play?"

The bull stopped and turned his massive head. His dark eyes twinkled with wisdom and mischief. He lowered his head and nudged a glowing ball of lightning toward Max's feet.

Max picked it up—it was warm and tingled in his hands, like holding a piece of star. He threw it back. The bull caught it easily, then tossed it higher. Soon they were playing the most magical game of catch ever invented, lightning crackling harmlessly between them.

"I've waited a hundred years for someone brave enough to play with me," the bull's eyes seemed to say. "Most people run from storms. But the brave ones find the magic."

Suddenly, the bull trotted toward the swimming pool behind the barn. He looked back at Max, then jumped into the water with a tremendous splash. Max followed, plunging into the pool still wearing his clothes.

Under the water, something amazing happened. The lightning Max had caught transformed into dozens of glowing fish that swam around them both. The bull wasn't just swimming—he was dancing, his massive body graceful as a dolphin. Max realized the bull wasn't old and grumpy at all. He was magical, lonely, and wonderful.

They played until the storm passed, sunshine breaking through the clouds to shimmer on the pool's surface.

"Nobody will believe this," Max said, hugging the bull's wet neck.

The bull nudged him gently. "Real magic doesn't need belief. It needs courage and friendship."

Now whenever Max sees lightning during a storm, he smiles. He knows that somewhere, a magical bull is dancing in the rain, waiting for the next brave friend who won't run away—but will run toward adventure instead.
