The Bull's Secret Pool
Leo sat on his front porch, thumbs tapping away at his iPhone. The screen glowed bright, but the summer day outside was brighter.
Buster, his golden retriever, nudged Leo's hand with a wet nose. "Woof!" he barked, tail thumping.
"Just a second," Leo started, but then he noticed something shimmering in the woods behind their house.
Curious, Leo tucked his phone in his pocket and followed Buster. Past the oak tree, through the tall grass, they found something amazing: a crystal-clear pool tucked in a circle of ancient trees. The water sparkled like diamonds.
But that wasn't the most surprising part. A massive bull stood beside the pool, his coat chocolate-brown with a white star on his forehead. Leo froze, but the bull only smiled gently.
"Welcome to my magical pool," the bull said in a deep, rumbly voice. "I'm Barnaby."
Leo's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"
"In this pool, anything is possible." Barnaby nudged a old baseball toward Leo. "Care for a game?"
For hours they played—the most fun baseball game Leo had ever experienced. When Buster joined in chasing the ball, everyone laughed. The magic pool made every catch spectacular, every swing powerful.
As the sun began to set, Leo realized something. He hadn't thought about his iPhone once.
"Real adventures are better than screen adventures," Leo said, petting Buster's head.
Barnaby nodded wisely. "The best magic isn't on screens, Leo. It's out here, with friends."
Leo waved goodbye and promised to visit again. Walking home with Buster, Leo took out his iPhone just once—to take a photo of the sunset.
Sometimes, he thought, the best games are the ones you play for real.
