The Bull's Secret Garden

spinachbullspy

Lily called herself a spy. She wore her mother's oversized sunglasses and carried a magnifying glass everywhere she went. Her mission: discover the secrets of Farmer McGregor's farm.

Every afternoon, Lily crept through the tall grass, notebook in hand. She knew all the animals by name — especially Buster, the massive brown bull with surprisingly gentle eyes. The other children said Buster was scary, but Lily wasn't so sure.

One Tuesday, Lily discovered something strange. Behind the old red barn, someone had planted rows of bright green spinach. But Farmer McGregor hated vegetables! He only grew corn and potatoes.

Lily moved closer, her spy senses tingling. Suddenly, she heard a loud CRUNCH.

Peeking around the corner, Lily gasped. There was Buster, happily munching on the fresh spinach leaves. He looked up and saw her, chewing peacefully.

"You... you like spinach?" Lily whispered, stepping out from her hiding spot.

Buster nodded enthusiastically. With a gentle nudge of his giant nose, he pushed the spinach patch toward her. Try some, his eyes seemed to say.

Lily took a bite. It was delicious — sweet and crunchy, nothing like the slimy spinach her mother served.

"I thought bulls only ate hay," she said.

Buster laughed — a funny, snorting sound — and revealed his secret. Behind the spinach patch was a whole garden: carrots, tomatoes, even strawberries! Buster had planted them all.

"My grandparents grew a garden," Buster seemed to say with his soft brown eyes. "I wanted to remember them."

Lily realized that everyone has secrets — even a big bull who loved vegetables. And the best spies aren't the ones who expose secrets. They're the ones who keep them.

Every day after school, Lily returned to help Buster tend his garden. They became the best of friends, sharing fresh strawberries and spinach leaves under the warm sun.

And Lily learned something wonderful: sometimes the scariest-looking creatures have the gentlest hearts, especially when there's spinach involved.
