The Bull's Secret Baseball Game
Lily and Tom loved playing in the sunny field behind their house. There was an old palm tree with leaves that waved like green hello-hands in the breeze. Every Saturday, they brought their baseball gear—mitts, bat, and a scruffy white ball that had seen many summers.
One hot afternoon, something magical happened. They were playing their favorite game called "Zombie Tag." Lily would stomp like a funny zombie, arms stretched out, saying "BRAINS!" in a silly voice. Tom would run away laughing, racing around the palm tree's trunk until he was too tired to move.
Then they heard a loud SNORT.
Behind the bushes stood the biggest bull either had ever seen! His coat was as brown as chocolate, and his horns curved like crescent moons. Lily grabbed her baseball bat, ready to protect her friend.
But the bull didn't charge. Instead, he nudged the baseball with his nose. Then he looked at them with big, gentle eyes.
"I think he wants to play!" Tom whispered.
Lily tossed the ball. The bull caught it in his mouth—gently! He trotted to the palm tree and dropped it at the base.
For an hour, they played the most wonderful game ever. The bull wasn't good at running fast, but he could hit the ball farther than anyone. When Lily pretended to be a zombie again, the bull playfully mooed and bobbed his head like he was dancing.
"You're the best baseball player ever," Tom told the bull, scratching behind his ears.
The bull closed his eyes happily.
When the sun began to set, their new friend trotted away toward the farm on the hill. But he left them something special—the baseball, covered in slobbery kisses.
"Will he come back?" Lily asked.
Tom picked up the ball. "I think so. Because now we're a team."
That night, Lily and Tom learned something important: the best friends can be unexpected, and magic happens when you include everyone in your game.
