The Bull's Midnight Game

Lily loved to be a spy. Every night, she'd grab her binoculars and peek through her bedroom window, watching the farm across the road. Her dad called it nosy. Lily called it adventure.

One full-moon night, Lily spotted something strange. Old Barnaby, the farmer's giant brown bull, was walking on two legs! He carried something round and white under his arm.

Lily grabbed her flashlight and tiptoed outside. Being a spy meant being brave.

She followed Barnaby to the edge of the cornfield, where fireflies danced like tiny stars. There, in a clearing, animals gathered—raccoons, rabbits, even a family of owls. But the most magical sight was the baseball diamond drawn in the dirt, glowing with sparkling dust.

Barnaby pulled a cap from his pocket and put it on his massive head. "Ready, everyone?"

The raccoon pitcher wound up and threw. *Crack!* Barnaby hit the baseball with a sturdy branch. It soared through the air, leaving a trail of rainbow sparkles.

Lily gasped. Barnaby turned and spotted her.

"Well, well," the bull rumbled gently. "A little spy. Come to join our game?"

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk!"

"On moonlit nights, many things are possible," Barnaby winked. "We're the Midnight Baseball League. Want to play?"

Lily nodded so hard her pigtails flew. She played first base, while a rabbit caught fly balls in its ears and an umpire owl called balls and strikes. The baseball felt magical in her hands—warm and tingly, like holding a piece of a star.

They played until the moon began to fade.

"Same time tomorrow?" Barnaby asked.

"Yes!" Lily cheered.

"But you must promise," said the bull softly, "to never tell another soul. Magic only works when kept secret."

Lily promised with her heart. That night, she learned that the best spies don't just discover secrets—they become part of them.
