The Bull's Magic Hat
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's farm, especially on hot summer days. She would skip past the chicken coop and duck pond until she reached the back pasture where Buster the bull lived. Everyone said Buster was grumpy, but Lily knew better.
Today, the sun blazed overhead like a giant golden coin. Lily carried her favorite floppy blue hat as she marched toward the pond where Buster usually napped. But today, the water was strangely still, and Buster was nowhere to be seen.
"Buster?" she called softly. A deep, sad moo echoed from behind the willow tree.
Lily rushed over and found Buster lying with his head resting on his hooves. Beside him lay a tiny baby bird that had fallen from its nest, too weak to fly back up.
"Oh no," Lily whispered. "The poor thing is thirsty, but it's scared of you, big guy."
Buster looked at Lily with his big brown eyes full of worry. He wanted to help, but he was too large to reach the high branches, and the bird wouldn't come near him anyway.
Lily had an idea. She placed her blue hat on the ground and filled it with cool water from the pond. Then she carefully lifted the hat, balancing it on Buster's giant nose.
"Steady, friend," she whispered.
Buster stood as still as a statue while Lily climbed onto his back. With the water-filled hat balanced perfectly, Buster raised his head toward the willow branches. The baby bird hopped onto the hat's brim and drank eagerly.
"Good job, Buster!" Lily cheered as the bird flapped its wings and flew back to its nest.
From that day on, whenever Lily visited, Buster would greet her with a happy snort, and the blue hat became their special tool for helping animals big and small. Lily learned that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes—even between a little girl and a giant bull with a heart of gold.
