The Bull and the Lightning Pool
Barnaby was a young bull with a big problem—he was terrified of water. While all the other cows and bulls splashed happily in the creek, Barnaby stayed far away on the grassy hill, watching and wishing he could be brave like them.
One hot summer afternoon, dark clouds gathered in the sky. Thunder rumbled like giant footsteps, and Barnaby's mother called, "Everyone, into the barn! A storm is coming!"
But Barnaby had wandered too far. He found himself in a hidden meadow he'd never seen before, and there, shimmering in the gathering darkness, was the most beautiful pool he had ever seen. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the purple and gray clouds above.
CRACK! Lightning flashed across the sky, and Barnaby trembled. He wanted to run, but something about the pool seemed to call to him.
Suddenly, a tiny glowing fish popped up from the water. "Don't be afraid!" the fish squeaked. "I'm Splash! This is the Magic Lightning Pool—whenever lightning strikes, the water grants wishes to brave hearts!"
Barnaby's eyes grew wide. "You mean... if I'm brave enough to step in during a storm, I can wish for anything?"
"Anything!" Splash bubbled excitedly. "But you have to be quick—lightning only comes once per storm!"
Barnaby's heart pounded. He had always wished to be brave like the other bulls. Was this his chance?
BOOM! Another crash of thunder. The sky lit up with brilliant lightning.
Barnaby took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and stepped into the cool, swirling water. It wasn't scary at all—it felt like a warm hug!
"I wish..." Barnaby shouted as the lightning flashed again, "I wish to discover that true bravery isn't about not being scared—it's about doing what matters even when you ARE!"
The pool glowed bright golden, and suddenly Barnaby understood: he had been brave all along. Every day he had faced his fear by trying to approach the creek. That took more courage than effortlessly jumping in like the others.
"You did it!" Splash cheered, dancing in the water. "You made the wisest wish of all!"
The storm passed, leaving a beautiful rainbow. Barnaby walked home, no longer wishing to be like everyone else. He was exactly who he needed to be—a bull who knew that bravery comes in many forms, and that sometimes the scariest steps lead to the most magical discoveries.
From that day on, Barnaby visited Splash often, and they became the best of friends—teaching everyone in the meadow that the bravest thing you can do is be yourself.
