The Brave Bear's Midnight Mission
Barnaby was a small brown **bear** with a shiny red bow tie. He lived on Rosie's pillow, but when the moon rose high, he had a secret job. Barnaby was a magical **spy**!
"Time for patrol!" Barnaby whispered, wiggling his fuzzy paws. He slid down the blanket ladder and crept across the moonlit floor.
In the toy box, something was making a sad, groaning noise. Barnaby peered over the edge. There was Zed, a floppy green toy **zombie** who had lost his arm!
"Groooannn..." Zed moaned. "I can't play pirate without two arms."
Barnaby nodded bravely. "I'll help you, Zed!"
He knew where to go—the magical garden beyond the window, where an ancient **sphinx** guarded lost treasures. The sphinx had the body of a lion and the wisdom of a thousand years.
The sphinx's golden eyes glowed. "To find what you seek, you must answer my riddle: What has a heart that doesn't beat?"
Barnaby thought hard. "A... a **friend**! Because friends care about each other!"
The sphinx smiled. "Correct. True friendship is the greatest treasure." She waved her wing, and Zed's green arm appeared, glowing with stardust.
"Thank you, Barnaby!" Zed cheered, hugging his new friend. "You're the best bear in the whole world!"
They danced under the stars until dawn, when Barnaby snuggled back onto Rosie's pillow. As Rosie woke up, she noticed her zombie toy looked happy—and Barnaby had an extra twinkle in his button eyes.
"I love you, Barnaby," she whispered, hugging him tight.
Barnaby smiled secretly. Being a spy was exciting, but being a true **friend** was the greatest adventure of all.
