The Boy With Magic Palms

poolpalmrunning

Toby had a secret. Whenever he pressed his palm against the ground, tiny pools of shimmering water would bubble up from nowhere. At first, he was scared. He tried hiding his hands in his pockets, even thought about wearing gloves all the time.

One hot summer day, Toby was running through the park when he heard a whimper. A baby bird had fallen from its nest, its wings too weak to fly back up. The poor thing looked thirsty and scared.

Tobby looked around. No water fountains nearby. The sun beat down mercilessly. His heart raced. He knew what he had to do, even though he was afraid someone might see.

He knelt beside the frightened bird and gently pressed his palm into the dry earth. Within seconds, a crystal-clear pool formed, cool and inviting. The bird dipped its beak and drank gratefully, then splashed happily.

"Wow!" said a voice behind him.

Toby jumped. A girl in a flowered dress stood there, eyes wide with wonder. "That's the most amazing thing ever! Can you teach me?"

Her name was Lily, and she didn't think Toby was weird at all. She thought he was wonderful. Together, they spent the summer creating pools for thirsty animals, for gardens that needed water, even for children who wanted to play in splashy puddles.

Toby learned that running from who you are only makes you lonely. But when you embrace your gifts and share them with friends, magic happens. His palms weren't strange—they were special, and they were meant to help others.

By summer's end, Toby wasn't hiding his hands anymore. He wore his magic proudly, palm forward, ready to make the world a little more wonderful, one tiny pool at a time.
