The Boy Who Could See Magic
Leo was ten years old, and he had a secret. He could see magic where others couldn't.
One Tuesday, while playing baseball in his backyard, Leo noticed something extraordinary. His toy bull — a tiny ceramic figure he kept on the windowsill — had moved. Yesterday, it had faced left. Today, it faced right, toward the old oak tree.
"Did you move?" Leo whispered.
The bull nodded its ceramic head.
That night, Leo crept downstairs with his iphone. He used its flashlight like a magic lantern, following the toy bull as it trotted proudly through the house. Past the sleeping dog. Past the snoring cat. Out the back door.
In the garden, a goldfish swam through the air as if it were water. Its scales shimmered like liquid moonlight.
"I'm Cornelius," the fish bubbled. "And you must be the new spy."
"Spy?" Leo's eyes widened.
"We magical creatures need someone to watch over us," Cornelius explained. "The baseball field is actually a portal. Tonight, something magical will happen."
Leo and his bull friend followed the floating fish to the baseball diamond. Under the starlight, the bases began to glow. Soft music filled the air — like wind chimes, but sweeter.
"What's happening?" Leo gasped.
"A dance," said the bull, whose voice was deep and gentle, like thunder rumbling in the distance. "We dance every hundred years to keep the magic alive."
Fireflies appeared, hundreds of them, swirling in patterns that made Leo gasp with wonder. The goldfish swam through their light, leaving trails of silver sparkles. Even the bull joined in, galloping gracefully with impossible lightness.
"Dance with us, Leo," Cornelius called.
Leo hesitated, then stepped onto the field. As he spun and laughed, he felt lighter than air. The baseball diamond wasn't just a place for games anymore — it was a kingdom of dreams.
When dawn approached, Cornelius whispered, "You're our guardian now. Your imagination keeps us real."
Leo promised never to stop believing. And every night, he places his ceramic bull by the window, watching for magic, knowing that the most extraordinary adventures are often hiding in the most ordinary places.
