The Boy Who Caught Stars
Sam's hair always had a mind of its own. It stuck up like a wheat field in the wind, no matter how much his mother tried to comb it down. But Sam didn't mind. His hair was his compass.
One afternoon, while practicing baseball alone in the backyard, Sam hit the ball into the neighbor's palm tree. He went to retrieve it, but when he reached into the palm fronds, his fingers brushed against something smooth and glowing—not his baseball at all.
It was a tiny crystal ball, no larger than a marble, attached to a shimmering golden cable that stretched upward into the clouds.
"Tug it!" whispered a squeaky voice from above.
Sam pulled the cable, and WHOOSH! He was lifted right off the ground, soaring through the palm leaves and up, up, up into the sky. His hair stood straight up like a halo as he climbed higher and higher.
The cable led him to a magnificent cloud kingdom where tiny creatures the size of fireflies were playing baseball with stars! Each hit star showered the clouds with sparkling dust that made rainbows.
"We need your help!" cried a little creature named Sparkle. "Our Star Ball is fading, and without it, we can't make wishes come true anymore!"
Sam's hair tingled with excitement. He grabbed his crystal baseball from his pocket—the same one he'd found in the palm tree—and tossed it gently. The tiny creatures hit it with all their might, and CRASH! A brilliant burst of starlight filled the sky.
"Thank you, Sam!" cheered Sparkle. "Now every child's wish can reach the stars again!"
Sam climbed back down the golden cable, his messy hair now glowing with stardust. From that day on, whenever he saw a shooting star, he knew it was the tiny cloud creatures playing baseball, keeping wishes alive for everyone who believed.
And sometimes, just sometimes, Sam's hair would point him toward the most magical adventures.
