The Boy Who Caught a Water Friend
Leo stood by the ocean, his sandy baseball cap pulled low over his eyes. He loved baseball more than anything, but today he felt lonely. All his friends were away on summer vacation.
He tossed his baseball toward the waves. *Splash!* It vanished into the blue water.
"Oh no!" Leo cried. But then, something magical happened.
The baseball floated back to shore, carried not by waves, but by a girl made entirely of sparkling water! Her hair flowed like liquid silver, and her eyes shimmered like sea foam.
"I'm Marina," she said, her voice sounding like gentle ocean ripples. "And I think you forgot this."
Leo's eyes went wide. "You're made of water!"
Marina giggled, creating tiny splashes. "I'm a water spirit. I've watched you play baseball for days. It looks like fun!"
"Want to learn?" Leo asked, forgetting his shyness.
Marina's eyes lit up. "Yes! But first..." She held out her hand. Leo noticed her palm glowed with an inner blue light. "Put your hand here."
When Leo touched her palm, he felt cool and refreshed, like jumping into a pool on a hot day. "Now we're friends!" Marina said. "Friends can share magic."
She taught Leo to throw the baseball so it made rainbows in the air. He taught her to catch, though sometimes the ball slipped through her water fingers and they both laughed.
When the sun began to set, Marina grew translucent.
"I have to go back to the ocean now," she said sadly. "But we'll be friends forever, Leo."
She pressed her glowing palm to his cheek. "Remember, true friendship flows like water — it never really disappears. It just changes form."
Leo watched her dissolve into the waves. But in his palm, a tiny drop of water remained, glowing with that same blue light.
Every day after that, Leo returned to the beach. And sometimes, when he played baseball, he'd see a sparkly wave splash at just the right moment to help him catch a tricky ball.
He wasn't lonely anymore. He had a friend made of water, and that was the most magical thing of all.
