The Boy Who Ate the Green Stars
Leo stared at his dinner plate. On it sat a mountain of green leaves—spinach, his least favorite food in the whole world.
"I can't eat this," Leo sighed.
But his grandmother just smiled and placed a dusty old hat on his head. It was blue with a silver star, and it smelled like rainstorms and magic.
"Try it," she whispered. "The spinach might surprise you."
Leo took a tiny bite. Suddenly, the hat began to glow! Green sparkles swirled around him like tiny fireflies. The room melted away, and Leo found himself standing in a magical garden where the spinach leaves were as big as umbrellas.
Before him stood a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and wings that shimmered like moonlight. But this sphinx didn't ask riddles. Instead, the sphinx wore a colorful party hat on its lion head!
"Welcome, brave one," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle thunder. "I am Splinter, Guardian of Green Magic. Only those who try what they fear may enter my garden."
Leo's eyes widened. "You mean because I tried the spinach?"
"Because you were brave," Splinter said. "Many children refuse to taste new things. But you did. That courage opened the door to magic."
The sphinx showed Leo wonders beyond imagination—trees that grew lollipop flowers, streams of sparkling lemonade, and butterflies that sang like tiny bells. Leo played with Splinter until twilight, when the magical garden began to fade.
"Will I see you again?" Leo called.
"Whenever you try something new," Splinter promised, "I'll be waiting."
Leo woke up at the dinner table. The hat was just a normal hat, and his spinach was gone. But his grandmother was smiling.
"Well?" she asked.
Leo grinned. "Spinach opens doors to magic. And I made a friend who wears a party hat."
From that day on, Leo tried everything—new foods, new games, new adventures. Because he knew that being brave enough to try was the greatest magic of all.
