The Bear with Rainbow Hair
Barnaby was no ordinary bear. While other bears in Pine Forest had brown or black fur, Barnaby's hair shone with all the colors of the rainbow—pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple all mixed together in his fluffy mane.
The other bears laughed. "Bears shouldn't have rainbow hair!" they would say. Barnaby spent most days alone, sitting by the edge of Sparkle Creek, watching the fish swim in the crystal-clear water. How he wished he could join them!
One sunny afternoon, Barnaby heard a tiny splash. A little fish named Fin was flopping helplessly on the rocks, caught in some old fishing line left by careless humans.
"Help me!" Fin cried. "I can't breathe!"
Barnaby's heart raced. The only way to reach Fin was to swim across the deep part of the creek. But he'd never even put a paw in water before. What if his beautiful rainbow hair washed away in the current?
"Please!" Fin gasped.
Barnaby closed his eyes and remembered his grandmother's words: "Your rainbow hair comes from magic inside your heart. It never fades because kindness never fades."
Taking a deep breath, Barnaby stepped into the cool water. Then another step. Soon he was paddling! His bear body was made for swimming! He glided across the creek like a fuzzy rainbow boat.
When he reached Fin, Barnaby used his claws to gently cut the fishing line. "Thank you!" Fin said, swimming around him happily. "You're the bravest bear I've ever met!"
The other bears, watching from the shore, cheered for the first time. Barnaby wasn't just the bear with rainbow hair anymore—he was the bear who had learned to swim to save a friend.
From that day on, Barnaby swam every day. His rainbow hair didn't wash away at all. Instead, it sparkled even brighter in the sunlight, proof that the best kind of magic comes from a brave and kind heart.
