The Bear With Lightning Hair
Bella was a small brown bear with very fluffy hair. Every morning, she spent extra time grooming her fur, but it always stuck up in wild tufts no matter what she did.
"Why can't my fur lie flat like the other bears?" Bella sighed, watching her friends smooth their shiny coats.
One summer evening, a storm rolled over the mountains. Thunder rumbled like hungry tummy growls, and rain poured down in silver sheets. Bella's family huddled in their cozy cave, but Bella felt strange tingles all over her body.
She crept to the cave entrance and watched something magical happen. Lightning bolts danced across the sky, and when they flashed, Bella's fur began to glow! Each lightning strike made her hair sparkle and shimmer like captured stars.
The little fox family across the river was scared. Their den had flooded, and they shivered in the cold rain. Bella knew what she had to do.
"Don't be afraid!" she called, stepping into the storm. Lightning flashed again, and her glowing hair lit up the whole forest like a warm golden lantern.
The foxes followed her light to safety on higher ground. Then Bella spotted two lost raccoon kits. Her lightning-lit fur guided them home too. All through the storm, Bella's special hair helped anyone who needed help.
The next morning, the sun came out. All the forest animals gathered around Bella.
"Your fluffy fur saved us!" cheered the fox.
"It's beautiful AND magical!" said a little rabbit.
Bella looked at her wild, stuck-up fur and smiled. What she thought was messy was actually magnificent. Her hair wasn't like everyone else's because it had a special job to do.
From that day on, Bella never worried about her tufty fur again. She had learned that being different makes you exactly who you're meant to be— and sometimes, that's more wonderful than you ever imagined.
