The Bear Who Wished to Swim
Barnaby was a very large bear with very small dreams. Most bears dreamed of honey or hibernating, but Barnaby dreamed of swimming. His thick fur made him sink like a stone in the forest stream.
Every afternoon, he'd sit by the water and watch the golden fish dart through the shallows. She was the most beautiful goldfish he'd ever seen, her scales shimmering like tiny suns.
One day, the goldfish swam right up to Barnaby's nose. "Hello, big friend," she bubbled. "I see you watching me every day. Why do you never splash?"
"I'm too heavy," Barnaby sighed. "Bears aren't made for swimming."
The goldfish giggled. "That's just silly! My friend Cleopatra could help you. She knows everything about water."
The next morning, Barnaby met Cleopatra—a sleek orange cat with whiskers that twitched with wisdom. She lived on a rocky ledge above the deepest part of the stream.
"Bears float better when they relax," Cleopatra purred. "Trust the water, big friend. Like this."
The cat leaped gracefully into the stream, paddling in lazy circles. Barnaby's eyes widened.
"Try with just one paw," the goldfish called from below.
Barnaby dipped one massive paw into the cool water. It felt nice. Then two paws. Soon, his whole body followed, and instead of sinking, he began to float! The current carried him gently, and the goldfish swam beside him like a tiny guide.
"You're doing it!" Cleopatra cheered from the bank.
Barnaby spent the whole summer swimming with his two new friends. He learned that being different didn't mean being impossible—and that the best adventures happen when you're brave enough to try.
That winter, when Barnaby curled up in his cave to sleep, he dreamed of water, gold scales, and a clever cat who taught a bear that even the biggest dreams can come true.
