The Bear Who Swam with Stars
Maya loved her teddy bear, Barnaby, more than anything in the world. He had soft brown fur and a missing button eye, but to Maya, he was perfect.
One hot summer night, as Maya lay in bed, she noticed something strange. Barnaby's paw was moving! She sat up, rubbing her eyes. There, in the moonlight, her teddy bear stretched and yawned.
"Maya," Barnaby said in a warm, rumbly voice. "Tonight, we're going on an adventure."
He took her hand, and suddenly they weren't in her room anymore. They stood on a beach with tall **palm** trees swaying in the breeze. The sand sparkled like diamonds.
"Where are we?" Maya asked, her eyes wide.
"This is the Beach of Wonders," Barnaby said. "And we're going **swimming**!"
Maya hesitated. She was still learning to swim. But Barnaby squeezed her hand. "Trust yourself, Maya. You're braver than you know."
They waded into the water, which felt warm and gentle. To Maya's surprise, she could breathe underwater! Everything glowed with soft blue light. Fish made of light swam beside them.
Suddenly, Barnaby pointed. "Look!"
Far below sat a crystal **pyramid**, bigger than a castle. But something was wrong. Dark clouds swirled above it, and purple **lightning** crackled around its edges.
"The Pyramid of Dreams is in trouble," Barnaby said sadly. "It needs joy and courage to shine again."
Maya thought about scary things — learning to ride her bike, the dark, her first day of school. She had been brave before. She squeezed Barnaby's paw.
"We can help!"
They swam down together. As they circled the pyramid, Maya sang her favorite songs and thought about everything that made her happy — her mom's hugs, her dad's silly jokes, playing with her friends.
The dark clouds began to fade. The purple lightning turned pink, then gold, then rainbow-bright. The pyramid started to glow, sending beams of light shooting up to the surface like underwater fireworks.
"You did it, Maya!" Barnaby cheered, hugging her. "Your brave heart saved the magic."
The next morning, Maya woke up in her bed. Barnaby sat beside her, stuffed and still, with his missing button eye. But when she picked him up, she found something clutched in his fuzzy paw — a crystal that glowed with rainbow light, just like the pyramid.
Maya smiled. She knew that sometimes, even when you feel small, you can do big, magical things. And the best adventures are the ones you share with friends, even if they happen to be **bears**.
